As we continue to be bombarded with rules for working from home (i.e.: get dressed, set a schedule, have a designated work space, etc.), there are also some renegade advantages to consider.
- Your feet can be in whatever they like. There are a lot of UGG slippers working full time right now.
- Eyelids drooping after lunch? This is a common malady. Now you’re free to sneak in that ten-minute catnap and return refreshed and ready to go. No one will ever know.
- What about snacks? No need to wait for mealtime to take a brief cupboard raid for just the right boost. There’s nothing like a little fresh popcorn to get you back on track.
- Ahhh, the comfort of comfortable clothing.
- Don’t forget exercise. You can do it whenever and how ever you like. Mute the sound and hop on that treadmill for your next conference call.
- As your ramble around your computers, the most interesting articles just seem to appear out of nowhere. Don’t resist the urge to take a quick read. Consider this a learning experience and take advantage of the opportunity to expand your knowledge.
- It is easy to stay on-task with no distractions from coworkers. Add to that, no place to go.
- Nothing wrong with a posting a quick Facebook update.
- Your favorite recipe that needs to sauté for hours has now become do-able.
- And about your laundry: you always have something clean and ready-to-wear because you can toss it in the washing machine whenever you like.
Ultimately, it is gratifying to see entire cities and countries band together in a spirit of cooperation and concern for one another. Despite social distancing, we seem to be uniting in this common resolve. Everyone deserves a high-five or a fist bump when that becomes appropriate again.
